Violin Lessons for Adults - in Your Own Home
also available via Skype and in booked rooms if needed
Everyone is musical - it is an inate human skill -
ask any young child to sing their favourite song,
there is no hesitation to make sound and move to their internal music.
Are you worried that you are too old, or that it is too late?
Do you wish you could just pick up an instrument and join in?
Is this your moment?
I love working with playful characters
who are driven and focused
able to follow simple steps
and willing to progress.
Recover your creativity,
play tunes you like straight away.
Playing music is good for your brain,
memory, agility, confidence and wellbeing.

The lessons are purely positive, fun but focused,
sensory, enjoyable and low-stress, calm, patient and encouraging. Learn to enjoy playing your own choice of music. Effective, fun exercises within tunes that you like. Emphasis is on relaxed confidence, listening skills, warm tone, progress, freedom of expression, joy, the ability to improvise, and play with others. I am happy to teach some theory and music reading but this is not necessary to be able to play and I do not teach grades. A solid confident foundation means that you will also be able to progress by playing with other fellow musicians, attending sessions, workshops and performing. Online support available between lessons. |
About Sam...
Biography
Encouraged by my mother, an accomplished soloist, I began playing the violin at the age of eight. As a child I joined Halton Youth Orchestra a small group in the north west in the town where I grew up. As I progressed I joined Warrington Youth Orchestra where under the instruction of the renowned Anthony Ridley, both as my teacher and the conductor of the orchestra, I played several classical concerts per year and enjoyed many combined orchestral & outdoor adventure courses in the Lake District.
In high school I passed my Associated Board Grade 5 theory and practical and began to teach other pupils and assist with music for school productions. Whilst studying music A level I played with North Cheshire Orchestra, Lymm Festival Orchestra and Warrington Musical Society doing more complex and choral works. This is also the time where I became interested in ‘alternative’ styles of playing.
I moved to Dorset in 2000 and toured for four years with UK FolkRockRoots band State of Undress. I also began teaching professionally at this time in County Primary Schools and teaching from my home, with pupils from 8 year olds to retired adults.
Most of my performance experience is based around the folk genre and improvisation. I have played in arts centres and theatres with The Desi Friel Band (incl Stu Pickering & Maartin Allcock - Fairport/Tull/Bad Shepherds); also Findhorn's very magical songwriter & harpist Iona Leigh. I spent a summer touring with a Victorian horse-drawn traveling stage lead by Showman Dave Sanger with Morag of the Marsh ~ folk singer and storyteller extraordinaire. I have played country style with Somerset's Gaz Austin; and touring a summer of ‘cowgirl jazz’ with The Senile Delinquents. Also touring and recording original songs in a trio with 32-20s bass player Smiffy McGruder and Australian Wayne Whitedog.
Current projects include FiddleBack with Ollie Back playing popular music, also weddings and private parties with barn dance band Ceilidh's Comet. A duo with with Georgie Girl (front woman for popular covers band Mustang Sally) and Cowsville Hummingbirds, a trio recently formed to explore country music, working on three part harmony vocals, original arrangements of traditional songs and collaboration on songwriting in this style with Somerset musicians Debbie Bracey and Kimberley Smith. I also run open music performance evenings in local community venues.
